DPRK 2007

Tuesday, April 24

Mass Games Reunification Tuesday was just a travel day, so we woke up very early to catch our plane back to Beijing. Our guide on the bus gave us a very sincere thank you for visiting in North Korea and hoped that visits like this could be more common in the future. He even jokingly said he hoped that we would return soon and bring some of our “imperialist friends” with us.

It was nice to finally get back to Beijing, and I never thought I’d be so thankful for the immense freedoms available to me in China! The trip was an amazing experience and was as fun as it was eye-opening. I feel like I have a better understanding of the country, even though that understanding may still be a small fraction of the total truth. Despite the hardships that face them because of the economic and political systems, they are obviously a very proud, kind, and hospitable group. It will be very interesting to see what the future has in store for them.

I highly recommend the trip, as you can imagine, and couldn’t be happier with the service provided by our tour operator, Koryo Tours.
